It may not be the barbecue season just yet but that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy a delicious and healthy burger for lunch or dinner. These super tasty and healthy patties are made with JAZZ™ and chickpeas and are a great way of introducing children to cooking as the recipe is really simple to follow too. And most of all it tastes divine!

Ingredients

1 JAZZ™ apple – peeled, cored and roughly chopped
1 x 400g tin chickpeas – drained
25g Breadcrumbs
2 tbsp Gram flour
1 Red Onion – peeled and roughly chopped
2 cloves Garlic – peeled and roughly chopped
1 medium size hot chilli
2 tbsp Cider Vinegar
1 tsp smoked salt (optional)
2 tbsp dark soy sauce
1 tbsp smoked paprika (Pimenton Dulce)
1 tsp dried thyme
1 tsp freshly ground black pepper
3 tbsp Olive Oil

Method

  • Place all the ingredients into a food processor and blitz until you have a coarse but even paste.
  • Line a baking tray with greaseproof baking paper and using your hands form the paste into burgers of your desired size and thickness. Cover and place in the fridge for at least an hour to allow the veggie patties to firm up.
  • Pre-heat your oven to about 200c (180c for a fan oven) and place the burgers on a lightly oiled baking tray. Brush a little oil on the top of each burger and put in the middle of the oven for about 30 minutes or until they are golden in colour. Turn over once after about 15 minutes.
  • Serve with salad, thinly sliced red onion, coleslaw and hot sauce.
