Following on from a fantastic 2018 where we helped swimming, football and petanque clubs amongst a host of other teams and individuals, the JAZZ™ Apple Foundation has kickstarted 2019 with the gift of an award to Spalding and South Lincolnshire Dragons, a local basketball team with bases in Spalding and Kirton.
The award from the JAZZ™ Apple Foundation will go towards new equipment for the club, which is steadily rising through the ranks of the Lincolnshire, Cambridgeshire and East Midlands leagues. Since the club’s formation ten years ago they have always reached the semi-final or final stages of the leagues they compete in and under the tutelage of a highly qualified national coach are beginning to write their own history.
This season the club started a kids section and is looking to put more training sessions for budding basketball locals in the area. The club wants to make it as accessible to any child as possible and is looking to make it free of charge for kids wanting to attend to boost attendance.
When we were contacted by the club and explained the current situation we knew it was the perfect organisation to give our first award to in 2019. Hopefully, the donation of some funds to pay for some new basketballs and kit will go along way towards attracting more youngsters to get active and involved in team sports.
