JAZZ™ Apple has retained its title as the ‘UK’s Tastiest Apple’ after JAZZ™ grown by Chandler & Dunn scooped first place at the National Fruit Show Live.
It’s the perfect start for JAZZ™ Apple as the UK season begins and means that the brand has now won the title six times in the last eight years. JAZZ™ Apples grown by John Bray also picked up second place in the competition.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the National Fruit Show was this year renamed the National Fruit Show Live and held online as part of a virtual show. It was only the third time in the show’s 87-year history that it had not been held face-to-face.
Taking place on Thursday 22nd October, the National Fruit Show Live featured a host of debates and presentations from leading figures in top and soft fruit, as well as a fully-interactive exhibition hall with virtual stands.
The history of Chandler & Dunn dates back to 1809 when Peter Chandler purchased 26 acres at Goldstone. Over several generations, his family have expanded the farm with Mr GS Dunn joining the business in 1922. Ten family members spanning three generations are actively involved in the business today which provides them with a rich farming heritage and over 207 years of farming knowledge and hands-on experience. Chandler & Dunn started growing JAZZ™ in 2006 with 7.5 hectares spread over three orchards and since that time they have doubled their plantings of JAZZ™ and been at the forefront of the variety’s rise.
Commenting on the triumph, Richard Chandler said:
“It’s a huge honour to win the ‘UK’s Tastiest Apple’ title and I really am pleased for the whole team involved. They can be a bit of a challenge to grow but the colour and their amazing flavour, along with their great storability make them a fantastic apple. They definitely cause an explosion in the mouth, and are brilliantly crunchy and juicy. The best apple around in my humble opinion.”
