An apple turnover may seem an uninspiring choice for our recipe of the month but when you supersize the traditional dish with delicious JAZZ™ Apples and top with salted caramel sauce then you have the ultimate sweet treat. Simple to make using a number of store cupboard staples, they are delicious as a dessert after dinner or fantastic when packed in the lunchbox for a tasty treat during the day. They get a big thumbs up from us!

Ingredients (Makes 6 turnovers)

5 JAZZ™ Apples, peeled, cored, and cut into 1/2-inch cubes
6 tbsp Water
6 tbsp granulated sugar
1 1/2 tsp of cinnamon
4 tsp lemon juice
2 packs of puff pastry
1 large egg, whisked
Salted caramel sauce to top

Method

Preheat oven to 200c/400°F

Mix together the apples, 1 tbsp sugar, 1/2 tsp cinnamon and 6 tbsp of water in a large saucepan and cook over a medium heat for 8 to 10 minutes.

Stir in lemon juice and leave to one side to cool.

In a small bowl mix together the remaining sugar and cinnamon and leave to one side.

Roll puff pastry and cut into 6 rectangle shapes (20cm x 15cm) that are about 1cm thick. Place puff pastry squares on to a baking tray lined with parchment paper.

Brush the edges of the pastry with egg wash and then place apple filling in the centre and fold over puff pastry to create a triangle. Gently press edges together using a fork.

Brush the tops of the turnovers with egg wash and prick a few times with a fork.

Sprinkle remaining sugar and cinnamon mix on top of the turnovers and bake in the oven for about 20 minutes until the pastry is crisp and golden.

Add any remaining JAZZ™ Apples filling on top of turnovers and pour over some salted caramel sauce and serve.
